Behind the Scenes with Aayka’s Founder: Custom Bridal and Family Outfits for Her Engagement

When it comes to special occasions, nothing beats the magic of custom outfits. As the founder of Aayka Fashion, I've always believed in the power of personalized clothing to tell a story, celebrate traditions, and make every moment unforgettable. So, when it was time for my own engagement party, I knew exactly what I wanted: custom outfits for myself and my entire family. 

Here's a peek behind the scenes of how it all came together!

All about the engagement party outfits

Getting engaged was a total whirlwind of emotions, excitement, and, let's be real, endless to-do lists. As someone who lives and breathes fashion, designing my engagement party outfit was a dream come true. But I didn’t stop there. I wanted my family to be part of this special moment, not just emotionally but sartorially too. The idea was to create a visual symphony with our coordinated outfits, symbolizing our unity and love.

Imagine a photo where everyone looks perfectly in sync, the colors, the patterns, the fabrics—everything harmonizing beautifully. That's the picture I had in my mind. We had a photoshoot, capturing these moments, and let me tell you, the results were stunning! 

The process

Every great design starts with a spark of inspiration. For my engagement, I was on the hunt for something modern and airy. I stumbled upon this fabulous glass tissue fabric that had the elegance of organza but without the stiffness. It was perfect for the graceful look I envisioned.

I initially leaned towards pearls and sequins with a silver fabric for myself, but after some sampling, I opted for a light green color instead, which lead me to design the rest of my family’s outfits in complimentary blues and greens. This refreshing color palette was perfect for capturing the spring vibe we were aiming for.

With inspiration in place and fabrics selected, it was time to get sketching. We did some samplings and set the khaka or a detailed sketch. 

This is where my vision started to take shape, and the only real tweak I made from the sample was to add more contrast to the embroidery. I wanted my blouse to be the star of the show, so we added hand embroidered tasseled beading and a modern bow tie back. 

From here on, it was much easier to then design each family member's outfit.

Coordinating outfits for the family was like piecing together a beautiful puzzle. My mom wanted a light, spring floral look on silk, which we effortlessly brought to life.

My sister leaned more into the organza look. We styled her with a unique blouse cut that added a touch of sophistication. These choices beautifully complemented my own outfit. 

For the men, we settled on sherwanis in shades of blues and greens, ensuring they harmonized with the overall theme.

I envisioned capturing an elevated "Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham" (K3G) vibe—a nod to the classic Bollywood family film.

It was a ton of work but so worth it!

The Final Reveal

The big day finally arrived, and with it, the moment of truth—the final reveal of our custom outfits. The excitement was through the roof. Seeing each family member's face light up with joy and surprise was everything I had hoped for. 

Our engagement party was a whirlwind of laughter, love, and endless compliments on our outfits. The custom designs added a layer of uniqueness and personal touch that made the day even more special.
